Depression is a life-threatening chronic illness that affects people around the world. The medicines used to treat this disease have several side effects and can cause drug or drug-food interactions. In addition, only 30% of patients respond appropriately to existing medications and the rest do not fully recover. Therefore, it seems necessary to find an effective treatment that is reasonably effective, has few side effects, and is low in cost. The purpose of this study was to review animal and double-blind clinical studies on the antidepressant potential of herbs.
